<p>Although <a href="https://www.formula1.com/" target="_self">Formula 1</a> (F1) and <a href="https://www.fiaformulae.com/" target="_self">Formula E</a> (FE) may look quite similar to the casual onlooker, the two categories are significantly different, and you may not have ever heard of the latter.<br><br>Formula 1 celebrated its <a href="https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-70th-anniversary-grand-prix-what-is-it/4849496/#:~:text=2020%20marks%20the%2070th%20anniversary,in%20Italy%20on%20September%203" target="_self">70th-anniversary</a> in 2020, with the <a href="https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/features/2016/5/f1-first-race-1950-silverstone.html" target="_self">inaugural world championship race</a> conducted on May 13th, 1950, at  Silverstone. It has traditionally been the focal point of the racing community, with many ambitious racers hoping to participate in the series.<br><br>Formula 1 is about much more than high-speed racing, team rivalry, and champagne podium celebrations. In reality, throughout history, the sport has been at the forefront of innovation, resulting in improvements that have directly benefitted the larger automotive sector. F1's composite materials, safety advances, energy recovery systems, and aerodynamic innovations have been implemented by a huge number of vehicles on the road today.<br><br>The series' creators were intent on electrifying the vehicle industry by creating hybrid and electric technologies that would cut carbon dioxide emissions. Whereas Formula 1 vehicles utilize hybrid engines fuelled by high octane carbon fuels, FE cars employ a completely electric drivetrain to zip around the course, depending only on an incredible 250kW battery.</p>
<h2>Basics</h2>
<p>This is a departure from the conventional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)-powered F1 cars, as FE takes single-seater racing in a new direction. In addition, unlike in Formula One, the teams all use the same chassis and aerodynamics, such as in feeder championships like GP2.<br><br>However, for the second season in 2015/2016, manufacturers were allowed to develop and provide their own powertrains - including the e-motor, inverter, gearbox, and cooling system - on the Dallara-built Spark-Renault SRT 01E chassis. In the second season, there were seven manufacturers, and two of the teams were still using the first season's standard.</p>
<h2>Speed</h2>
<p>Formula 1 takes the lead in terms of speed - however, their electric counterparts are making significant progress as a result of continuous technological advancement. Formula E's newest all-electric racing vehicles can reach up to 280km/h, compared to F1's top speed of 397km/h. FE vehicles, by comparison, can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 2.8 seconds. Formula 1 edges them out by a fraction of a second, hitting the same speeds in an astonishing 2.6 seconds.</p>
<h2>Powertrain comparison</h2>
<p>While existing Formula 1 vehicle have a V6 turbo-hybrid powertrain (which combines an internal combustion engine with two electric motors), FE cars utilize a totally electric powertrain that is powered by a 250kW battery.</p>
<h2>Formula E Performance</h2>
<p>McLaren provides the electric motor with a maximum output of 200kw or around 270bhp. It is acceptable to have up to two motor generator units, which must be connected to the rear axle. The batteries used to power these cars are produced by <a href="https://wae.com/" target="_blank">Williams Advanced Engineering</a>. There's a 170kw power limit in race mode, but it's unrestricted during practice and qualification rounds.<br><br>Vehicles are equipped with paddle-shift sequential transmissions. With Hewland's five-speed units for the SRT 01E in season one, the gear ratios remained the same. A single standard pedal controls two separate hydraulic systems that make up the braking system. Alloy callipers made of aluminum are standard, but you may use whatever material you like.</p>
<h2>Tires</h2>
<p>Michelin supplies the 18-inch treaded tires, in contrast to F1's 13-inch slick compounds. FE tires are designed to perform in both wet and dry conditions and are intended to survive a whole race weekend.</p>
<h2>Competition</h2>
<p>This year's 2021/2022 season is comprised of 11 teams, 22 cars and 22 drivers however, there will only be one winner. They will compete through 16 races across the world in cities like Rome, Berlin, Vancouver, and New York.  The activity in a Formula 1 race is stretched across a three-day event, but the action in FE is compacted into a single day.</p>
<h2>Overlapping</h2>
<p>Formula 1 uses DRS, whereas Formula E uses FanBoost. This provides drivers with a temporary boost of 30kw of electricity during the race. It is presented to three drivers after a fan vote. While some consider it a gimmick, it does bring spectators closer to the action, and FanBoost has assisted in increasing overtaking and rearranging the order.</p>
<h2>Dimensions</h2>
<p>The vehicles measure 5000mm long, 1800mm wide, and 1250mm high — proportions that are quite comparable to those of F1 cars.</p>

Top 7 Sporty Hatchbacks to Get Excited About in 2022

<p>These days, you don't have to look very far to see the unmistakable symptoms of climate change. In the Far North, ice is disappearing. In the west, wildfire season continues to increase in ferocity. And all of it's because of the impact we humans are having on the world around us.</p>
<p>It should come as no surprise, then, that the government is taking steps to transition the nation to a greener way of doing things. And a big part of that effort is centred on encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles.</p>
<p>That makes now a great time for eco-conscious Canadians to consider purchasing a <a href="https://heyauto.com/cars/electric" target="_self">new electric vehicle</a>. And to provide some extra motivation, the government is offering a variety of rebates and incentives that can lower the cost of doing so by quite a bit.</p>
<p>But the rebates and incentives you might be eligible for vary depending on which car you're considering and where you live. To help, here's a guide to help you navigate the various electric vehicle incentives available around the country. We'll cover why the rebates and incentives exist, what each province has to offer, and the vehicles that qualify for them.</p>
<h2><strong>The Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program</strong></h2>
<p>Back in May of 2019, the government launched the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program. Its purpose is to encourage Canadians to replace their gasoline-powered automobiles with newer, zero-emission vehicles. The program offers direct financial incentives for individuals and tax rebates for businesses when they purchase or lease a qualifying vehicle.</p>
<p>The program offers two levels of incentives, which are:</p>
<ul>
<li>A $5,000 point-of-sale rebate for battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, or plug-in hybrids with a battery capacity of at least 15 kWh</li>
<li>A $2,500 point-of-sale rebate for short-range plug-in hybrids with a battery capacity of less than 15 kWh</li>
</ul>
<p>In general, the vehicle you're purchasing must have a retail price of $45,000 or less and be brand new at the time of purchase to qualify. But because there are now so many vehicle models available to consumers, the simplest way to check on a particular vehicle is to see if it's on this <a href="https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/innovative-technologies/zero-emission-vehicles/list-eligible-vehicles-under-izev-program" target="_self">exhaustive list</a> of approved vehicles.</p>
<h2><strong>Additional Incentives at the Province or Territory Level</strong></h2>
<p>The nationwide iZEV program isn't the only incentive system that may be available to you. Depending on where you live, your province or territory may offer some additional rebates or purchase assistance. They're not available everywhere, but here's what's available at the time of this writing:</p>
<h2><strong>British Columbia</strong></h2>
<p>Residents of British Columbia have access to one of the best electric vehicle rebate programs in the country. Under the program, purchasers of a qualifying battery electric vehicle (BEV) or electric vehicle (EV) receive rebates up to $3,000. On top of that, the program also offers rebates on a variety of home-based charging equipment. And that's not all.</p>
<p>The province also offers a companion program known as <a href="https://scrapit.ca/" target="_self">SCRAP-IT</a>. It provides an additional $3,000 to $6,000 bonus when residents trade in a gasoline-powered vehicle in favour of a new or used EV. When you add in the nationwide rebate program, residents of British Columbia could walk away with up to $14,000 in rebates when they purchase a brand new electric vehicle to replace their current vehicle.</p>
<h2><strong>Quebec</strong></h2>
<p>Although Quebec doesn't offer any kind of trade-in incentives, it does feature one of the most generous EV purchase rebate programs in the country. Under the program, residents can receive up to an $8,000 rebate when they buy or lease a qualifying PHEV or BEV. The only major restrictions are that the vehicle must be new and cost no more than $60,000. The program even offers rebates for electric motorcycles or scooters, too. Put together with the nationwide rebate, and Quebecois can qualify for up to $13,000 in rebates on the purchase or lease of an EV.</p>
<h2><strong>Ontario</strong></h2>
<p>Ontario once offered the most generous EV rebate program in the country. Up until 2018, residents could qualify for up to $14,000 in rebates on the purchase of certain EV models. Today, however, there's only a rebate program offered by a non-profit called Plug N' Drive, which provides <a href="https://www.plugndrive.ca/used-electric-vehicles-scrappage/" target="_self">up to a $2,000 rebate</a> on the trade-in of a gasoline-powered vehicle and the purchase of a qualifying used vehicle.</p>
<h2><strong>New Brunswick</strong></h2>
<p>While Ontario got busy doing away with its rebate program, New Brunswick did the opposite. It launched <a href="https://www.nbpower.com/en/products-services/electric-vehicles/plug-in-nb/" target="_self">a rebate program</a> meant to complement the nationwide rebate program. It offers a rebate of up to $5,000 on the purchase of a new qualifying PHEV or EV or up to $2,500 on a used model. When combined with the national program, buyers in New Brunswick can end up with as much as $10,000 in rebates on a new EV.</p>
<h2><strong>Nova Scotia</strong></h2>
<p>As of February 2021, residents of Nova Scotia also have access to a rebate program, which provides up to $3,000 back on the purchase of a qualifying BEV or PHEV. And as of July 5th, 2021, the program offers the rebate at the point of sale, making it easier for buyers to access. It boosts the total that residents can qualify for to $8,000 when combined with the national program.</p>
<h2><strong>Prince Edward Island</strong></h2>
<p>Not to be outdone by nearby Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island offers <a href="https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/environment-energy-and-climate-action/electric-vehicle-incentive" target="_self">a rebate program of its own</a>. As of April 2021, residents can qualify for a rebate of up to $5,000 on the purchase of a new or used EV. Buyers of hybrids receive a rebate of $2,500. That means PEI residents can end up with a total of $10,000 in rebates on the purchase of a new vehicle if they choose one that qualifies with both the local and national programmes.</p>
<h2><strong>Newfoundland &amp; Labrador</strong></h2>
<p>The third maritime province, Newfoundland and Labrador, also has its own rebate program. Though not as generous as its neighbours, it provides a $2,500 incentive for residents to go electric. The program isn't endless, though. It began the year with a $500,000 budget which means it's only available to the first 200 residents that qualify for it. For those that get it, it means a $7,500 total discount off of their qualifying vehicle.</p>
<h2><strong>Plenty of Incentives to Buy</strong></h2>
<p>The good news is, the national rebate program means that every Canadian can take advantage of a significant discount on their next vehicle. All they have to do is go electric to qualify. And when combined with the many additional rebates and incentives at the provincial and territorial level, they might end up with a clean vehicle that costs significantly less than they expected. That's a good deal for them and the environment – a true win-win.</p>

Canadian Electric Vehicle and Low-Emission Rebates in 2021

<p>The wagons coming out of Europe these days look great, meaning you won’t look like a dork when you drop off your kids at their soccer game. Back in the day, driving a wagon meant that you had to give up speed and cool points — that day is long gone.</p>
<p>Mercedes has debuted their face-lifted E53 AMG Wagon and it’s a sight for sore eyes. Mercedes is great for being a front-runner in-car tech, the new E53 has what they refer to as “Pink Noise” crash sound sensing that will protect your ears from the dangerously high decibels of a car accident. Although this is actual consumer advice, I am still going to advise you to get the AMG; be a cool parent.</p>
<p>The new V60 <a href="https://heyauto.com/cars/polestar" target="_blank">Polestar</a> wagon is out and has finally given us the option to get a plug-in hybrid. Since this is actual consumer advice, I’m not going to mention the 0-60 time, but trust me you will be impressed. <a href="https://heyauto.com/cars/volvo" target="_blank">Volvo</a> has always done a great job on the looks of their vehicles, and this is just another example of that. If you are concerned about safety, you can never go wrong with a Volvo and, personally, I would pick one up before I got a <a href="https://heyauto.com/cars/mercedes" target="_blank">Mercedes</a>. The Polestar and the AMG are going to hit you in the pocketbook similarly, it’s about 80k for all that extra muscle vs 65k for the normal cars.</p>
<p>I personally don’t think <a href="https://heyauto.com/cars/audi" target="_blank">Audi</a> is pulling its weight in this category unless you are willing to invest in the race version of the RS6 Avant, and even so, it's still the least attractive of the three. If you’re in it for function rather than fashion, you will be happy with the extra trunk space it offers over the Benz or Volvo, but the wow factor just isn't there, especially when it's priced the same as the other two.</p>

Actual Consumer Advice - The Wagon

<p>Jeep has had a pretty good year after releasing both the Gladiator, the Trackhawk and the Gladiator Mojave, and now they’re looking to stack more on top of it.</p>
<p>Usually, when we think of Jeep Wranglers we think of a slow summer cruiser, but Jeep has beefed it up with a 450HP V8 under the hood. This new Jeep is called the Rubicon 392 and does 0-60 in the sub 5 seconds, that is pretty impressive considering most new jeeps are closer to 7 seconds. For now, this Jeep is just a concept and is supposed to be launched on the day of the Bronco release. Hopefully, we will see one become available in the near future.</p>

<p>The ultimate car argument. Japan or Italy? Do you need to pay a premium to have the coolest car on the block? Drifting or lap times? Gleaming Rosso Corsa Ferrari paint or Sparco decals? Fast and Furious had us all watching a Vinyl wrapped Toyota Supra leave a Ferrari in the dust on the PCH and convinced us all it was the cooler car to have.</p>
<p>Let’s go back to the 90’s when both countries were in there prime. Japan was giving us one of the most mystical cars out there. A car Paul Walker made into every kids dream car. The Nissan R34 Skyline. This car is still somewhat of a unicorn in North America (you will need a lawyer to slip you through some tight customs loopholes to import one).</p>
<p>The R34 is arguable the prettiest car to ever come from Japan, top speed and acceleration is not what we are looking for here. You are going to have every eye at the car meet on you even when it’s parked.</p>
<p>The R34 was for childish street racers though and you had no interest in that. You were wearing a Brioni suit and valeting out front of Mr. Chow. You needed something with a big price tag and a screaming V8. Therefore you bought a Ferrari 355.</p>
<p>The Ferrari 355 was beautiful. It had a gated 6 speed manual transmission and looked like it belonged in front of both a California beach, and a Villa in Tuscany. Topping out at 183MPH it had the legs on the stock R34… however no one who has a R34 had a stock R34.</p>
<p>This is an argument that will never come to an end. If I am at a Tokyo parking garage drift race i want the R34, if i’m winding around mountain roads in the French Alps, ill take the Ferrari every time.</p>
