Smart is a German compact car manufacturer under the Daimler AG umbrella. The unique Smart design was originally conceptualized in the early 1970s and has seen many iterations since then. Smart was launched in Canada in 2004, and in the United States in 2008. The initial launch created months long waitlists, however, this momentum could not be maintained and Smart pulled out of Canada and the United States in 2019.
