Edmonton may be known as the arts capital of Alberta, but did you know that it also has some of the most amazing nature escapes around? The mountains may be about three hours away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t reasonably get to world-class trails. Follow along to see our list of the top 5:
Drive Time: 30min
Length: 12.6 km
Escape the city on Moss Lake Trail, a moderate loop amongst lush forest and stunning lakes. The trailhead starts near, you guessed it, Moss Lake, and loops around through Elk Island National park. This is a great hike for all skill levels!
Drive Time: 40min
The Ministik Bird Sanctuary Loop is an easy trail, but long enough to feel like a substantial day out. As the name suggests, this is a great trail for any birdwatchers out there, and everyone else will enjoy weaving through the forest and grasslands!
Drive Time: 1h
There’s few things more relaxing that wandering through a poplar forest, and one one of them is wandering through a poplar forest next to a lake. This hike is family friendly and welcoming for all skill levels.
Drive Time: 2.5h
The Crimson Lake Loop: Amerada Trail is an easy 10km trail with plenty of picnic spots. It does require I bit of a drive from Edmonton but the escape is well worth it!

Length: 4.5 km
This loop is a must-see in Autumn. The Aspen forest becomes a yellow and orange paradise, perfect for you next family photo shoot!
